Fraser was a political activist who opposed nuclear weapons and campaigned for better housing and women’s working rights. In 1944 she became the Scottish women’s organiser for the Communist Party and the secretary of the Scottish Communist Party’s women’s advisory committee, recruiting many women. She organised the first Scottish National Assembly of Women held in Glasgow on 8 March, 1953, on the theme of ‘The world we want for our children’ attended by 400 delegates from women’s organisations.
