Russian ballerina Lopokova joined the Ballets Russes in 1910 but it was not until 1918 that she was first seen in London when she appeared as a principal dancer alongside Massine at the Coliseum. Principally a demi-caractère dancer, she was acclaimed for the roles created for her by Massine in The Good-Humoured Ladies (1917) and La Boutique Fantasque (1919).
