Born in Jerusalem in September 1876, Gladys was raised in and around her father's studio. Like her brother Hillary (1879-1949), she appears in many of Hunt's sketches and paintings of the period. This photograph does not appear to be related to any of Hunt's paintings. It is annotated on the reverse 'Gladys…aged 11 years as an angel for dear cousin Mary', which may refer to Hunt's niece Mary Wilson (1849-1926).
