Writer and journalist, doctor and activist. Widgery trained and qualified as a doctor and practiced as a GP for over 20 years in the East End, contributing regularly to the British Medical Journal. A writer for the underground press in the 1960s, he contributed to the first issue of Oz, taking over editorship after the jailing of its editors for obscenity (1971).
