Son of Hussein Ibn Ali, Sherif of Mecca, King Abdullah together with his brother Faisal led the Arab revolt of 1916. He became the Emir of Transjordan, a territory created by the Sykes-Picot agreement for supporting the British. King Abdullah was assassinated on the steps of Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem by an Arab nationalist after it was thought he was engaging in secret peacemaking treatise with Israel.
