Hackney-born Trevor Nelson was a pioneer of the urban music scene in the 1990s, starting his broadcasting career at the pirate radio station Kiss in 1985, before it gained its license in 1990. He rose to Director and daytime DJ of the station, promoting the Lick party club nights, before moving to BBC Radio 1 in 1996 to present the first ever national R&B show.
