The direct descendent of the Italian Duc de Bassano, Alessandro (later Alexander) Bassano married an Englishwoman, Adelaide Lancaster, with whom he had three children. This portrait shows his two daughters, Camilla and Adelaide, and his grandchildren, Sybil and Hermione. Bassano died in 1913 and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery. His business continued to operate and in 1963 the studio was amalgamated with the studio of Elliott and Fry.
