Broadcaster and journalist. Day was President of the Union at Oxford in 1950, and trained for the bar. He then embarked on a career in television journalism with ITN and later the BBC. He stood unsuccessfully for Parliament as a Liberal in 1959. As a political commentator, however, Day rose rapidly to the top of his profession.
