Sir Richard Browne, 1st Baronet was of low birth, and worked as a wood monger. He joined Cromwell's army in 1644 and fought on the Parliamentarian side during the civil wars. Browne became an MP in 1645, and was Sheriff of the City of London and Alderman of the City of London from 1648 to 1649.
