Peter Turnerelli was an Irish sculptor born of Italian parents. In 1793 he moved to London and studied sculpture there under Peter Francis Chenu and at the Royal Academy, where he exhibited from 1802. He spent a period in Italy, where he was deeply influenced by Antonio Canova. From 1797 to 1800 he taught modelling to the daughters of George III and was subsequently Sculptor-in-Ordinary to the Royal Family.
