Winner attended Downing College, Cambridge where he studied law and economics and edited the student newspaper, Varsity. He began his film career in 1956 as a screen writer before becoming a director and producer on British films such as Play it Cool (1962), The System (1964), I'll Never Forget What's 'Isname (1967), Hannibal Brooks (1969) and in America on several films starring Charles Bronson: Chato's Land and The Mechanic (both 1972), The Stone Killer (1973), Death Wish (1974) and two sequels in 1982 and 1985.... more
