Mary Seacole Magnet

This rectangular magnet features a portrait of Mary Seacole, featured in the National Portrait Gallery Collection NPG 6856.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1805, Mary Seacole was a British-Jamaican nurse who cared for injured soldiers during the Crimean war. She had to overcome prejudice due to being a woman of a mixed-race background. She is known as a war hero and nursing pioneer.
