At an early age, Vorsterman entered the studio of Peter Paul Rubens. Recognising his student's talent for engraving, Rubens tasked Vorsterman with creating plates based on his own designs. Vorsterman moved to England in 1623, where he remained until 1631. During this period, he engraved the portraits of King Charles I, Thomas Howard and William Cavendish.
