This photograph was taken at Garsington Manor, the home of Philip and Ottoline Morrell, which became a refuge for conscientious objectors during the First World War. It provided farm work, deemed to be of national importance, as well as a new centre for intellectual gatherings, where members of the Bloomsbury set were regular visitors.
