Born in Gerrard's Cross, Moore had a successful career on the stage and in the cinema. Lead roles in Genevieve (1953) and Doctor in the House (1954) made him a major star. In 1955 he won best actor prize at Venice for his dramatic performance in The Deep Blue Sea.
