Columnist, editor and 'Agony Aunt'. Following her graduation from Newnham College, Cambridge, Whitehorn was a publisher's reader (1950-53). She subsequently worked as a journalist for Picture Post (1956-7), Woman's Own (1958) and The Spectator (1959-61). As columnist for the Observer from 1960 to 1996, Whitehorn became known for her wit, humour and observance of the lives of women.
