Born in Prague, he escaped after the Germans invaded Czechoslovakia, joined the Resistance, and served as Press-attaché in London. One of the leading proponents of the Modern Movement, he introduced to this country the work of the German Expressionists, Dadaism, Constructivism and Bauhaus principles.
