Royalist who played a heroic role in the escape of Charles II in 1651. After the Battle of Worcester in September 1651, Charles went into hiding in Shropshire and Staffordshire. His companion, Lord Henry Wilmot, was at nearby Bentley Hall, the home of Jane's brother, royalist Colonel John Lane. Jane had recently obtained a pass to visit a pregnant kinswoman in Bristol.
