Bunting was initially apprenticed to a Unitarian doctor and began preaching in the Wesleyan ministry in 1799. A staunch opponent of the revivalist movement, he ministered for almost sixty years in Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Liverpool, London and elsewhere.
