Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Moody came to England in 1904 to study medicine and set up a practice in Peckham, South East London. A preacher in the Congregational Church, he held many prominent positions including Chairman of the London Missionary Society. He founded, in 1930, the League of Coloured Peoples, an enterprise which aimed to fight discrimination and seek better opportunities and conditions for students and workers from Africa and the West Indies in England.
