Prime Minister. A member of the publishing dynasty, Macmillan served in the 1914-18 war, and was wounded three times. He won Stockton-on-Tees for the Conservatives (1924-29, and 1931-45). Macmillan wrote an argument for Conservatism, The Middle Way (1938) and was regarded by many of his party as a 'neo-socialist'.
