Kar photographed Severini at his atelier in Meudon, near Paris. Bill Hopkins wrote: 'Every morning on arriving at his studio, he takes off his bowler hat and rolls himself a paper hat from the day's newspaper. On the morning this photograph was taken he was advertising Sir Winston Churchill's memoirs on his forehead.'
