Gertrude Elizabeth Campbell was a journalist, art critic, socialite and keen sportswoman. She separated from her husband Colin, Lord Campbell after a notorious court case in 1886 in which he accused her of adultery with four co-respondents. After her husband's death in 1895, she re-established her standing in society as art critic of The World and the Art Journal and editor of the Ladies Field which reflected her interests in both art and sport.
