George Belmore (né Garstin) first achieved prominence in the adaptation of Mary Braddon's sensation-novel, Aurora Floyd (1863), at the Princess's Theatre. The Times called his performance 'one of the striking events' of the theatrical season. Subsequent roles included those in Francis Burnand's The Deal Boatman (1863) and Wilkie Collins's No Thoroughfare (1867). He was also known for his comic acting and pantomime work.
