Florence Nightingale Greetings Card
Blank greetings card with envelope featuring:
Florence Nightingale NPG x16136
© National Portrait Gallery, London
printed by Henry Lenthall, after William Edward Kilburn
This is a print of one of the earliest photographs of Florence Nightingale. It was taken at the time of her first professional engagement as Lady Superintendent of the Upper Harley Street Establishment for Gentlewomen during Illness. Her experience of the Soho cholera epidemic in August 1854 prepared her for the devastation caused by the disease in the Crimea. Her lowered gaze perhaps gives an indication of her social reserve and unease in front of the camera.
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
Images are printed in their original proportions, within a white border.
