Blyton created Noddy, one of the most popular and enduring children's characters, in 1949. Educated at boarding school and trained as a governess, by 1921 Blyton's children's stories were appearing regularly in magazines and she was able to give up teaching. In a career spanning thirty-five years she wrote picture books and many children's novels, including the Malory Towers school series, and the Famous Five and Secret Seven adventures.
