A career naval officer, Jellicoe supported Winston Churchill and the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir 'Jackie' Fisher, in their campaign to modernise the Navy and introduce the Dreadnought battleship. Jellicoe became Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Fleet in 1914 and, after the decisive Battle of Jutland, First Sea Lord in 1916.
