Initially a rector in the family living in the Parish of Averham with Kelham, in Nottinghamshire, promotions came rapidly to Manners-Sutton. In 1791 he became Dean of Peterborough, the following year was consecrated Bishop of Norwich and two years later was appointed Dean of Windsor. At Windsor Manners-Sutton and his wife became great favourites with King George III and the royal family and, on the death of Archbishop Moore in 1805, the king intervened personally with William Pitt to secure Manners-Sutton's translation... more
