Born in Yorkshire, Morrison was educated at the University of Nottingham and University College, London. His poetry includes the collections Dark Glasses, winner of a Somerset Maugham Award in 1984, and Pendle Witches (1996), illustrated by Paula Rego. In 1993 he published the acclaimed And When Did You Last See Your Father?, a memoir of his father's life and death which won the J.R. Ackerley Prize and was made into a film in 2007, starring Colin Firth.
