Linley Sambourne NPG 3034

© National Portrait Gallery, London

by Linley Sambourne

This drawing was made to illustrate an article on political cartoons, published in the Magazine of Art in 1892. The self-portrait was not 'from life': Sambourne drew it from a photograph by Alexander Bassano, and introduced discreet improvements, a leaner face, larger eyes, more hair, in the process.
