by Alexander Bassano

Cutler first appeared on stage in 1888. Her innocent and youthful appearance fitted her to be a leading actress of ingénue roles. Throughout the 1890s and early 1900s she appeared in musical plays including The French Maid (1897) and HMS Irresponsible (1900). In 1905 she abandoned musical theatre in favour of straight plays and performed in Oscar Wilde's A Woman of No Importance (1907) and Somerset Maugham's The Noble Spaniard (1909), among others.
