Born in Burma, Heath studied art under Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn, Cornwall. In 1939 and 1945-47, he attended the Slade School of Fine Art, London. Heath was a central figure in the development of post-war avant-garde art in Britain and his contemporaries included Terry Frost, Victor Pasmore and Anthony Hill.
