It wasn't until the death of her father George Ormerod that Eleanor Anne Ormerod was able to pursue her interest in entomology. Denied the formal education of her brothers, she provided insect specimens, in abundant supply on the family estate in Sedbury to the Royal Horticultural Society. She strategically moved near to Joseph Hooker which gave her access to Kew Gardens and the opportunity to expand her research professionally.
