Saith Satoor was the son of an Armenian trader from the province of Bushehr. Educated in Bombay, India he became a protégé of Abbas Mirza, favourite son and heir of Fath Ali Shah of Persia. From 1818-1819 he travelled with the painter Sir Robert Ker Porter as an interpreter in Persia, Iraq and Turkey.
