Unknown man, formerly known as John Aislabie NPG 1754

© National Portrait Gallery, London

by Unknown artist

This picture does not appear to represent the same person as the only certain portrait of John Aislabie. The sitter looks about thirty and the wig suggests a date c.1720. The artist would seem to be working in the tradition of Sir Godfrey Kneller but it is not possible to be more precise.

More detailed information on this portrait is available in a National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue, John Kerslake's Early Georgian Portraits (1977, out of print).
