Sinden joined the Empire Theatre at the age of eleven, where she danced a Lancashire clog dance in the ballet The Paris Exhibition (1889) and trained with ballet mistress Katti Lanner (1889-91). Specialising in tap and skirt dancing, she appeared at the Gaiety and Daly's Theatre during the 1890s.
