Known as the Dodge Sisters, Betty and Beth were born in America. They made their name in Europe appearing in a number of revues. In 1927, when this portrait was taken they were in London performing Oh Kay at His Majesty's Theatre. The musical was by George and Ira Gershwin and the book was by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse.
