Indian official; served in the Bengal infantry, fought in the Sikh wars, and reformed the civil administration of Banu, 1847. Edwardes received his greatest celebrity by twice suppressing the rebel Diwan Mulraj in 1848. After serving as commissioner of Peshawar, 1853-9, he finally retired to England through ill-health in 1865.
