Christopher Richard Stein was born on a farm in Oxfordshire and educated at New College, Oxford before opening The Seafood Restaurant in Cornwall in 1975. His books including Rick Stein's Taste of the Sea (1995) and television programmes have made him a household name. Awarded an OBE in January 2003 honours list for his services to tourism in South West England.
