To emphasise Princess Victoria's qualities as an exemplar of young womanhood, artists revived the idealised imagery generated to commemorate Princess Charlotte, customarily depicting her as the 'Rose of England'. Sir George Hayter's appealing portrait of Princess Victoria best illustrates this connection.
