Father D'Arcy was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1921 and after teaching at Stonyhurst moved to Campion Hall in Oxford where he lectured and tutored in philosophy until the end of the War. He became the best-known English apologist for Roman Catholicism, linked with the conversion of a number of well-known individuals such as Evelyn Waugh and Dame Edith Sitwell.
