Bishop of Haiti. Born to free black parents in Washington DC, Holly became a preacher for the Episcopal Church in America. In 1861 he left his parish of St Luke's Church, New Haven, Connecticut, and arrived in Haiti with 101 black emigrants to establish an Episcopal mission. In 1874 he was consecrated in New York and served as Haiti's Bishop until his death in May 1911. In 1878 he travelled to England and was the first black Bishop to attend a Lambeth Conference.
