by George Du Maurier
This self-portrait drawing shows George Du Maurier exclaiming 'Hooray!' at the arrival of the post. His dog dances nearby and declares 'W.P.F. [artist William Powell Frith] is a Brick!'.
The drawing's exact significance has yet to be determined, but it appears to relate to an illustrated letter dating from March 1881 (NPG D45755) in which Du Maurier cancels a meeting with Frith and Frederic Leighton due to work pressures.
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
Images are printed in their original proportions, within a white border.
