Guyanese actor, musician, writer and poet. Son of a Moravian minister and a music teacher mother, Grant joined the RAF in 1941 when recruitment became open to non-whites. In 1943, on a failed mission during the Battle of Ruhr, he parachuted to safety after his plane was shot-down but found himself imprisoned by the German forces, eventually being freed by allied forces in 1945.
