This diamonds suit playing card depicts the alleged plotting and execution of a group consisting of the Jesuit priests William Ireland, Thomas Whitbread, John Gavan and John Caldwell, the Benedictine monk Thomas Pickering and the layman John Grove. According to the testimony of Titus Oates, their plot included a failed assassination attempt on the king as he walked in St James's Park. These victims of the plot were beatified by Pope Pius XI in 1929.
