by F.G. Gainsford

Author and doctor. He became Byron's travelling physician for some months in 1816. Author of The Vampyre, 1819, a tale which met much acclaim, partly because of the publisher's assertion that the work was by Byron. Unable to meet his gaming debts, Polidori committed suicide in 1821.
