This portrait by the émigré German painter, Hein Heckroth, includes references to the impending Second World War: maps of Europe appear as a cloud and in a bubble, alluding to the Continent’s instability. The 'listening' ears indicate Hein's belief that Hart was connected with the Secret Services.
