Second World War special operations officer. Hallowes joined the Special Operations Executive in 1942 and was sent to occupied France, where she acted as a courier for the Résistance. In April 1943, she was arrested. Hallowes remained silent under interrogation by the Gestapo and was sentenced to death. She was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp but survived and gave evidence against the camp staff at the Nuremburg trials.
