Shannon's lithograph shows Beerbohm's renowned dandyism. He contributed to The Pageant (1895), an artistic and literary Christmas annual co-edited by Shannon; and drew a perceptive caricature, Mr Ricketts and Mr Shannon in the Enjoyment of Popular Success (1907), in which a comically enthusiastic Ricketts and bashful Shannon present a statue to a surly John Bull.
