Lady Sarah Wilson was the daughter of the 7th Duke of Marlborough and notably became the first female war correspondent when she reported on the Siege of Mafeking for the Daily Mail during the Boer War in 1899. Her husband Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Chesney Wilson was aide-de-camp to Colonel Robert Baden-Powell, the commanding officer at Mafeking. The young Winston Churchill, nephew to Lady Wilson, was also a war correspondent before achieving office as British Prime Minister (1940-5 and 1951-5).
